Manfredonia

Manfredonia is situated on the largest gulf in the central-southern Adriatic Sea. In the past, the town was sacked repeatedly by the Turks and as a result became very poor.
From its glorious past, Manfredonia has preserved the Swabian-Angevin Castle, as well as other structures of considerable interest including the Church of San Domenico (Saint Domenic), the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore di Siponto (Saint Mary Major of Siponto), and the Abbey of San Leonardo (Saint Leonard)...

Today its economy is based on fishing and it boasts some of the greatest fishing resources in the region. A considerable number of businesses have also been established in the area previously owned by the ex-petrochemical company, Enichem.
